 WPA Center

The WPA Center was built in 1936 by the Works Progress Administration, a relief measure established in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  The W.P.A. created employment for 8,500,000 different persons on 1,410,000 individual projects, and had spent about $11 billion during its 8 year history.

The WPA Center was referred to as Old City Gym, home of the Carrollton "Flexettes" Gymnastics Team until late 2001 and to many recreation programs.

There are now two staff offices, a small kitchen with a sink and refrigerator, and a 52'x90' Reception Hall with a gas log fireplace.  Banquet capacity is 164, Meeting capacity is 200, with the extra seating for 50 in the original bleachers on one side of the hall.  Cost for rental is $50 per hour or $300 for 8 hours if you don't serve alcohol.  Fees are for residents of Carroll County and those who work or go to school in Carroll County.  For all others, fees will be doubled.

If you want to view the Center call 770-832-8789 to make an appointment. To reserve space for your event, please call 770-832-1161.
