The Senior Center opened in January of 2000.  The facility is located at 220 West Avenue, which is behind the Carrollton Community Activities Center.  The facility is open every Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm.  Senior Adults over the age of fifty-five that come to the Senior Center can participate in programs such as computers, line dancing, water aerobics, arts and crafts classes, ceramics, quilting, billiards, chair exercises, card games, and many other activities.  The seniors enjoy many holiday parties throughout the year.  Usually there are games, music, prizes, food and fun!  Day trips are taken monthly and overnight trips a few times a year.  A congregate meals program is provided Monday through Friday at noon for members.  Those over 60 pay $2 donation per meal and those under the age of 60 pay $3.50.

Nice and Easy Aerobics classes are offered in the Bonner Building for those interested in exercising.  If that is not enough, the fitness center is free to members of the Senior Center.  Senior Dances are held in the Pilot Auditorium of the Community Activities Building every second and fourth Friday night at 7:30pm.  Paul Cooper's band plays great music for every one to enjoy.  Admission is $4 per person and if you want you can bring a snack to share.

A contract duplicate bridge league plays every Tuesday and Thursday in the Community Activities Center. All of these activities as well as many others are offered by the Carrollton Senior Center, and to be a member it costs only $15 a year!

Transportation is provided to and from the Senior Center for those who do not drive, however it is on a limited basis.  If you would like more information please call Danielle Jenkins at (770) 832-1644 or (770) 832-0189.  Or better yet, stop by and see us!

Meals on Wheels

The Carrollton Senior Center prepares and delivers meals for homebound senior citizens in the community.  A lunch meal is delivered to thirty-eight people each day, Monday through Friday.

The qualifications for meals on wheels are:

  1. A person must be over 60 years of age
  2. They must live alone or live with someone who also meets the qualifications
  3. They must be unable or have difficulties in preparing a hot, nutritious meal
  4. They must live in our delivery area

Dietitians put the menus together and they meet one third of the daily food requirements.  Not only is the food important for the participants, the daily face-to-face contact with the delivery person is beneficial as well.  If you or someone that you know is interested in receiving meals on wheels, you can contact Danielle Jenkins at (770) 832-1644 or (770) 832-0189.

*At the present time there is a temporary hold on the congregate, home delivered, and transportation programs due to decreased federal and state funding.  To get signed up for the waiting list, contact the Area Agency on Aging at (770) 854-6026.
